Panelist:

Evi Carman, PhD, C.ErgHF.

Eva-Maria Carman is a Chartered Ergonomist and Human Factors Specialist with the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF) in the UK. She has an MSc in Human Kinetics and Ergonomics from Rhodes University (South Africa) and a PhD from Loughborough University (UK), both with a focus on human factors in healthcare. She has worked as a Human Factors Specialists at the Trent Simulation and Clinical Skills Centre in the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust since 2019.

Jace Flannigan, MA

Jace Flanagan is a Human Factors Engineer at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He received his Master’s in Human Factors and Ergonomics from San Jose State University. With previous experience in the medical device industry, he was interested in becoming an embedded healthcare HF practitioner. After completing the Veterans Affairs Advance Fellowship in Patient Safety program, he transitioned to a fully embedded role at Froedtert Hospital in July of 2022.

Shaunna Milloy, M.Sc.

Shaunna Milloy is a Human Factors Specialist at Alberta Health Services (AHS) in the province Alberta, Canada. She received her Master of Science in Human Factors/Cognitive Psychology from the University of Calgary. Prior to joining AHS in June 2014, she was the sole embedded Human Factors Specialist at Fraser Health Authority in the province of British Columbia. Shaunna designed Android smart phones and mobile applications during her time in Seattle, Washington. Her research passions include Medical Human Factors, specifically procurement and system level design.

Swaminathan Kandaswamy, PhD

Dr. Swaminathan Kandaswamy is an Assistant Professor at Emory University School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics. He completed his PhD at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and collaborates closely with clinicians at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Dr. Kandaswamy’s work focuses on addressing the usability issues with electronic health records (EHR). One of his many goals is to improve the safety and quality of Clinical Decision Support through continuous EHR design, implementation, and evaluation.
